HOBY Colorado will not be able to provide scholarships to cover the school registration fees for the 2012 Seminar. Your school’s registration fee covers only a small fraction of the Seminar cost, which exceeds $400 per student. Through the generous support of cooperating organizations, corporate donations, in-kind contributions, and the personal donations of our own volunteer staff, HOBY Colorado is able to keep school registration fees low.
Through a partnership with Daniels Fund, HOBY Colorado is able to provide some scholarships for students/schools that may not be able to cover the full costs of the seminar. For more information contact Martha at hobycolorecruitment@gmail.com.
Ideas to fund your HOBY representative:
- Many schools find that their Parent Teacher Association or Booster’s Clubs are very receptive to sponsoring HOBY students. Alternatively, some schools’ student governments allocate funds for HOBY registration.
- There are yet other schools/students who challenge their selected students to fundraise their registration fee. We often find these students to be our most engaged HOBY participants, because they have already made a personal investment in their participation.
- And finally, some schools do ask for the parents to support their child’s participation. While HOBY certainly advocates that it be the school that provides this opportunity, we know that is not always possible, and that there are many parents who would willingly pay the registration fee rather than have their student miss out on the opportunity.
Colorado HOBY funds the four (4) day Leadership Seminars through student ambassador sponsorships from corporations, service organizations, foundations and individuals. These donations to HOBY are tax-deductible as allowed by law under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Additionally a $150 registration fee is required for each student nomination. All other expenses, except personal spending money and travel to the Seminar site, are paid for the student.
