Selection Process

Each school can establish their own selection process criteria. Colorado HOBY suggests the student selection not be based solely on academic achievement. Other traits to consider might be personal motivation, emerging leadership behavior, curiosity, open mindedness, and willingness to share. The selection committee should identify one representative and an alternate. During the nomination process both students’ information will be required.

The nominated student should demonstrate two or more of the following traits:

  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Critical and creative thinking
  • Problem solving
  • Decision making skills
  • Sensitivity to others needs
  • Ability to challenge authority
